Cavities are serious dental issues. If a cavity is not repaired in a timely manner, the decay can spread and compromise a large area of enamel. In time, it can even affect the critical internal pulp or root of the tooth. In a case like this, your dentist, Dr. Mark Miller, will often recommend restoring the tooth with a crown.

The process of placing a crown starts by your dentist using a drill to remove all of the tooth enamel. This creates an abutment that consists of the dentin and other internal structures of the tooth. Dr. Mark Miller will then form an impression of the abutment and surrounding teeth. A temporary crown is then placed over the abutment and the impression is sent off to the dental lab where your crown will be made.

When your crown is ready, a member of our Miller & Simarro Dental Care team will call you to schedule a second appointment. At this appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and cement your new crown into place. With the proper care and cleaning, the restored tooth should last for many years to come.
